How to Make Videos of Your Dog’s Training

Being able to review your training sessions can be a great way to strengthen your skills and track your dog’s progress over time. One of the best parts about videoing your training is that you often notice small improvements you may not catch in the moment. You might see cleaner responses, better timing, improved focus, or even areas where your own handling became clearer.

The trick to making training videos is simply to start. At first, it can feel a little strange training in front of your phone or camera, but after a few sessions, it quickly becomes more natural. It can also be a lot of fun to watch your dog’s progress from week to week.

Try setting your phone up on a stand and giving yourself visual markers so you know where you and your dog should work to stay in the frame. If you don’t have a phone stand, you can easily lean your phone against another object. It takes a little practice to learn how to keep your dog visible on camera. You’ll probably notice improvement after only a few recording sessions.

Whether you’re recording videos for yourself, sharing on social media, or posting in the Trickovation community, training videos can become an incredibly valuable tool. You don’t need a large training space, but when possible, try working in an area without too much visual clutter in the background so that you and your dog stand out more clearly on camera.
