Dog Bather

About the Role
In the grooming industry, the dog bather plays a key role in preparing pets for professional grooming. At MJ’s Pet Training Academy, LLC, we are hiring for a dog bathing position that comes with a unique opportunity: while learning the essentials of bathing and prep work, you’ll also gain exposure to grooming and styling techniques on the job.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare the bathing room and products before each shift.

  • Greet customers, assess each dog at intake, and safely bring them into the grooming area. The bather will handle dogs of all sizes and energy levels. Dogs showing signs of stress will need to be handled accordingly. The bather plays a key role in helping dogs feel safe and secure when arriving at the grooming salon.

  • Trim nails and shape nails, and learn to perform basic pre-clipping.

  • Bathe dogs using professional techniques, ensuring proper prep work for the groomer.

  • Dry dogs with HV dryers, stand dryers, and brushes appropriate for their coat type

  • Work confidently with a variety of breeds and coat types.

  • Maintain a clean, organized workspace and assist groomers with upkeep throughout the day.

  • Use phones to call customers about their pets and computers to review notes, enter updates, and complete transactions

  • Clean the bathing room at the end of each shift.

  • Follow safety and emergency protocols when handling dogs.

    Job duties that are performed less frequently may not be listed here.


Training & Development

  • Participation in mandatory training on bathing techniques, breed standards, dog behavior, computer use, and emergency protocols.

  • Optional training opportunities available for those interested in advancing grooming skills.



Qualifications

  • No prior bathing or grooming experience required, though dog handling experience is preferred.

  • Ability to safely team-lift and move dogs weighing 50+ lbs. Ability to handle dogs 100+lbs. 

  • Must be comfortable working in a wet environment with regular bending, kneeling, and standing. 

  • Must wear personal protective equipment when required and follow all safety rules 

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions precisely.

  • A valid driver’s license is required. Candidates should have access to their own vehicle when needed (e.g., in rare or emergency situations).

Work Environment

  • Contact with dog hair, shampoos, and grooming products.

  • Noise level is moderate sometimes with barking dogs and the sound of dog dryers

  • Bathing

  • Bathing dogs requires working in a wet environment.

Schedule

This role is part-time. Candidates must be available on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Salary

Compensation starts at $15 per hour and increases based on relevant experience, skills, and qualifications.
