Find the Right Dog Training
You don’t need to know exactly which program to start with. Our group classes let you explore new activities with your dog while working toward your training goals. Private Training and Behavior Coaching are customized around you, your dog, and what you’d like to work on.
Is our training style right for you?
We use positive, reward-based training, appreciate good obedience, and love finding new ways for dogs to think, move, learn, and use their natural abilities. We believe that play between you and your dog and clear communication are essential for training success. Our training is about much more than teaching dogs to follow commands.
At MJ’s, we like to talk dogs. We talk about how they learn, what the latest research tells us, how we communicate with them, and what they tell us in return. We focus on the whole dog, from training and behavior to exercise, enrichment, grooming, and handling.
Dogs need clear rules. We teach skills such as leaving food and distractions, responding to cues from a distance, greeting people politely only with permission, and more. Yes, we will help you teach your dog what not to do in addition to all the neat skills they will learn.
You may have heard that we also love trick training! While Trickovation ® isn’t required, unique skills often make their way into our regular classes. Your dog doesn’t know the difference between a skill you consider a trick and one you consider obedience, but if you can train your dog new “tricks,” you’ll get better at training and communicating with your dog. You’ll also learn about things such as cue clarity, fading treat lures, why response time matters, and more.
We’re not the right fit if you’re looking for training without rewards or methods that rely on fear, intimidation, or avoidance.

Behavior Coaching
For bigger challenges, we offer customized Behavior Coaching for dogs experiencing aggression, reactivity, fear or anxiety, resource guarding, handling sensitivities, separation-related behavior, and other complex concerns.
Behavior Coaching is available in person or virtually and begins with a virtual Behavioral Assessment. The assessment is about an hour and costs $150. We’ll talk through your dog’s history, your current concerns, your goals, and what you’ve already tried so we can determine the best approach.
Not sure if Behavior Coaching is right for you? Start with a free Welcome Call before scheduling an assessment.
After the assessment, if we’re the right fit, we’ll recommend a customized program with in-person or virtual sessions and work with you step by step. Your $150 assessment fee will be credited toward the cost of your program.
