What to Expect

Group classes are a great way to build skills around distractions and improve your dog’s focus, but not every dog is immediately ready for a group setting. To participate, your dog must be comfortable working around other dogs and people, and show safe, manageable behavior in a shared space. If you're unsure whether your dog is a good fit, we're happy to help you decide! Contact us with any questions—we can guide you toward the best training option for your dog. We run classes throughout the week. While some classes may fill up, sometimes we have slower times of day where there is only one student. We can’t guarantee the class size.

Dog Gear

Retractable leashes are not allowed in class. Please bring your dog on a flat collar, harness or martingale collar. You should also bring plenty of treats and dog food along with a toy for your dog.

About Treats

Your dog will be more motivated by high-value treats in distracting environments, but you don’t need to overfeed during training. We suggest creating a balanced “trail mix” that includes your dog’s regular kibble along with a variety of training treats. Mixing the options keeps your dog’s interest. You can also use squeeze tubes, lick jars, and other creative treat options. Just remember—too many treats can cause problems, so it’s important to find the balance that works best for your dog.

About Toys

Play is an important part of training. Learning how to use toys in a session can strengthen both learning and your bond. A ball on a rope or a small tug toy works especially well. Keep a few toys that are reserved only for training time to make them extra valuable.

About Praise, Sniffs, and More

Training isn’t only about food or toys. Our system also encourages you to understand your dog’s behavior and strategically use the environment, praise, and sniff breaks as powerful rewards. You’ll learn how to apply these strategies by attending our class series. Be sure to ask your trainer about the importance of using a variety of rewards.

Footwear

For your safety and your dog’s success, please wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes—athletic sneakers are ideal. Flip-flops, sandals, or heels can make it harder to handle your dog safely during training activities. You'll be moving, turning, and rewarding often. Come ready to train!
