Community Skills
Train your dog for the AKC COMMUNITY CANINE AND FOR REAL LIFE DISTRACTIONS
This six-week course combines everyday manners with AKC Canine Good Citizen and Community Canine skills, practiced in real-life settings. The first class will meet at MJ's Pet Training Academy, with subsequent sessions held at various public locations. This hands-on course is led by experienced trainer Rick Maloney.
Please check class dates carefully, as make-up classes are not available for this course.
Important Requirements:
Dogs should be comfortable around other people and dogs. This is not a class for reactive or aggressive dogs.
Dogs must be safe on leash in public settings. If your dog is a flight risk or you have concerns about bringing your dog out in public, please contact MJ's Pet Training Academy for alternative training options.
A valid rabies certificate must be emailed or brought to MJ's Pet Training Academy at least two days before the first class.
All enrollment documents must be completed before the course begins. Additional documentation will be emailed to you for completion.
Handlers are responsible for cleaning up after their own dogs during outings.

Rick Maloney - Canine Good Citizen Evaluator
Rick Maloney is an AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluator with a strong background in dog training and education. At MJ's Pet Training Academy, Rick has played a role in both the day school programs and teaching and assisting with various dog training classes. His passion for helping dogs and their owners has driven him to continually expand his knowledge and skills.
Rick's formal journey in dog training began in 2018 when he completed a four-week accelerated training course at the Tarheel School for Dog Trainers in Sanford, NC. In 2019, he furthered his education by attending a five-day seminar at Hope Service Dog Training School in Summerville, FL. He then went on to attend various other seminars and develop his style of training through hands on practice as well as continuing education.
With years of experience and a commitment to ongoing education, Rick Maloney is a trusted professional in the field of dog training, dedicated to helping dogs and their owners succeed.

Students in the Community Dog Skills will have the opportunity to be evaluated for CGC and Community Canine.
